Why Does A Newborn Session Take So Long?

Here at From Lizzy With Love Photography, we often hear people saying "It must be so easy taking photographs of newborn baby's" This is far from the truth! New baby's take up to 4 hours to get a beautiful gallery of images. Here is why!

typically, we try and schedule all newborn baby sessions between 4 and 14 days after birth. Although we do photograph newborns at any age, we strongly advise parents to schedule sessions when babies are at least under two weeks of age. At this age, they are more likely to curl up in “womb-like” poses, stay asleep longer, don’t mind being unclothed, and usually have their feeding schedules set to at least every two hours.

The age of a newborn baby sometimes doesn't matter, they could be 5 days old and don't like certain positions or changes. We know how to handle each baby. We allow up to 4 hours, as baby needs to be fed, changed, wrapped, moved from prop to prop. We tend to do the handling and feeding (if bottle fed) of the baby, as we feel if we hand the baby back to it's mum or dad, then this disrupts them. We also love to be perfectionists where possible. We strive to get the most beautiful expressions and posing of your baby to give your gallery the wow factor. Some like being wrapped, some don't! We have never had 2 baby's the same! We also always say that "You pay for what you get" we are complete perfectionists, from moving fingers, little feet.....we strive to make sure the pose is perfected which takes time. We also say "Less is more" me and my assistant also say that we would rather have 10 stunning images, over 50 ok-ish images. Newborns are only this tiny for such a short time. As soon as you know it they are having their first birthday! The first few weeks as so precious. Capturing them is a must.
